Since graduating from college in 2008, life has gone by in a whirlwind of weeks, months, and years. Now here I am, almost 8 years later, sitting in the same gray-walled cubicle day after day, not necessarily unhappy, but not fulfilled either. What would my 22 year old self say about this? I can bet that it would start with a string of curse words and end with a violent “do something about it!” I’m happy in the other aspects of my life, am I cutting myself short by not also being passionate about my career? Considering that we spend the majority of our waking time at work, I think so! Finally, I’m doing something about it. I’m on a quest to find a career I am passionate about.
In guarantee I’m not the only almost 30 year old that feels this way. Being an avid blog reader myself, I have spend the past several months searching for the blog of someone in my position. A youngish lady on the cusp of 30, still not really sure what she wants to be when she grows up. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t able to find anything. So- I’m starting the blog I want to read!
What am I going to write about? Well, I began re-evaluating my life and career path about 6 months ago, and I’ve learned more about myself in the last 6 months than I have in the last 6 years, which will provide lots of material! Specifically, I am leaning in the direction of a career digital marketing, so you will find a heavy focus on all things social media, blogging, and digital networking. Luckily, the world now revolves around the digital marketplace, so these topics are relevant across most industries.
I also consider myself and expert on all things job search. Since graduating college, I have helped countless friends and family members with their resumes and cover letters. Fun fact: I actually started dating my boyfriend after helping him with his resume (it was terrible, I fixed it, he took me out for a thank you drink, and, as they say, the rest is history). I’m here to share my tips and tricks and what I’ve learned along the way.
My hope is to connect with others who are making a change in their lives to follow a path they are passionate about, regardless of what that path is. And hopefully, motivate those who may be hesitant, to step outside their comfort zone. Trust me, it’s exhilarating!
